Project Management
Tyler has over 26 years of project management experience in implementing complex integrated justice systems. During this time, Tyler’s
methodology has been built on best practices and its project management team has accumulated over 100 years of collective project
management experience.
Tyler’s project management methodology addresses nine management areas: Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resources,
Communications, Risk, and Change. Successful planning, coordination, and execution of these areas is critical for successful
implementations, and this is why they are defined in The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) put forth by the Project
Management Institute (PMI). Tyler project managers are very familiar with this standard methodology—many of our project managers
are certified Project Management Professionals (PMPs).
Courts & Justice Practice
Tyler’s implementation teams are members of a professional organization known as the Courts & Justice Practice. While following a
standard, repeatable methodology, implementation plans are customized to meet the unique needs of individual client engagements.
Services and areas of expertise include:
- Application Configuration - Odyssey products are highly configurable, giving them the needed flexibility to operate in multiple
client environments at various levels within a state, county, district, or municipality. Thus, specific code tables, security roles, and
application settings must be configured prior to go-live for each implementation. This extensive configurability, along with Tyler’s
best practices are a powerful part of Tyler’s solutions.
- Data Conversion – Tyler’s approach is an iterative process of analyzing, cleansing, and transporting data from the current system
to Odyssey. Tyler has implemented a set of tools and processes that allow the client and Tyler to collaborate on data conversion activities
to whatever degree a client desires.
- Training - Tyler recommends that training/implementation teams be formed and should consist of both Tyler and client resources.
The joint training/implementation team will be responsible for developing the training plan, building training materials that incorporate
court procedures and expected process changes, coordinating training schedules, and performing the training. Tyler can undertake all of
these efforts without client resources, but the quality of the training program will be significantly enhanced if the process is highly
collaborative. Additionally, highly collaborative training development between Tyler and the client facilitates the knowledge transfer
to client Training Staff members (lending to Train the Trainer concepts).
- Systems Integration - A fundamental objective of the Odyssey framework is the ability to integrate with the myriad state, county and
federal applications and data sources that are needed to successfully execute the business of the judiciary in a timely manner. Odyssey
provides several capabilities and options to meet these needs. First, Odyssey itself includes a number of framework components that can
be leveraged to service both scheduled (batch) and near-real time integration requirements. This framework includes web services, Job
Processing tasks, and several Windows services. It can support incoming, outgoing, or bi-directional integrations using XML, ASCII, or
binary data formats. Odyssey Integration Services are an extension of our products. We build them upon the same technologies as the
products themselves, and our strategy allows us to evolve them alongside the products continually – without destabilizing what we’ve
already accomplished.
